How to recognise fake documents: ELA organised a training on document fraud

ELA organised a ‘Training on document fraud’ in Amsterdam, on the 20th and 21st of June 2023 for practitioners working in the field of labour inspections across the EU.

A group of people sited in round tables attending the training, with two

The training aimed at creating awareness on the different forms of fraud of documentation (personal identity documents and other documents related to road transport, including posting) and at equipping participants with ways how to detect them during field actions. Participants to this training came from various enforcement agencies in the field of labour mobility, social security and road transport.

Trainers from the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark explained how to verify if the documents are genuine and highlighted the importance of profiling (comparing the photo on the document with the person in possession of the document). Trainers presented cases in which fraudulent documents in labour mobility field were discovered. Finally, participants were showed tools, websites and apps which are available to help to verify the authenticity of documents.

This training was also a unique chance for enforcers of labour mobility legislation to meet their peers from other Member States and to pave the way for future bilateral and multilateral cooperation initiatives.

This training is an example of ELA’s continuous effort to build the capacity of its stakeholders at national level, helping them to ensure fair labour mobility and the consistent enforcement of Union law in the areas under the Authority’s mandate.
