Description

The European Labour Authority (ELA) is organising a workshop dedicated to the enforcement of social security coordination rules, with a particular emphasis on tackling social security fraud. A significant part of the workshop is also focus on how social security fraud can be addressed by using digital means and Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, and how these can be incorporated into day-to-day investigative work.

For the moment tackling social security fraud and especially cross-border fraud remains a significant challenge to the national social security systems and close cooperation across borders is crucial for the enforcement efforts to be efficient. So far cooperation at cross-border level between national authorities, including on joint or concerted enforcement activities, is limited.

AI-powered tools and data mining could provide innovative solutions for identifying and preventing fraudulent activities more effectively. Digital solutions, including such systems as the Electronic Exchange of Social Security Information, play a role in fostering cooperation between national administrations. However, there is still room to facilitate the use of the tools available and work on developing new ones.

This workshop aims to build connections and a shared understanding on tackling of social security fraud among social security enforcement authorities from the Member States. It also introduces and launches the operational focus of the European Labour Authority on social security fraud planned for 2025.
