Description
On June 5, the European Labour Authority (ELA) and the German Central Customs Authority jointly holds a follow-up event to two major EU-wide enforcement actions on compliance with remuneration rules conducted in October 2024 and March 2025. The event takes place at the General Customs Authority headquarters in Cologne, hosted by Ms. Constanze Voß, President of the German Central Customs Directorate VII (Financial Control of Undeclared Work – FKS).
A total of 80 participants – including representatives from Member States’ labour inspectorates and German authorities – engage in constructive dialogue on strengthening compliance with EU and national rules governing remuneration. The event includes ELA updates on ongoing analytical and information initiatives in support of fair labour mobility, analytical and academic insight and active discussion on new perspectives on enforcing remuneration at national level and cross-border level.
The key added value of the event is in the active discussions and sharing of practical insights, approaches and experiences gained during the 2024-2025 joint cross-border inspections, as well as the reflection on the associated benefits and challenges. This created opportunities to explore collaboration avenues in future enforcement activities, including with the support of ELA.
The main takeaways include the importance of information sharing and meticulous planning of enforcement actions, the benefits of using digital tools, and a clearly identified need to strengthen and support the capacity of the Member States to tackle complex cross-border cases with knowledge based resources.
The workshop is part of the broader ELA project launched in 2024 to systematically gather and analyse practical challenges in implementing and enforcing EU rules within ELA’s mandate.
