Free movement body (FMB)

Myria – Federal Migration Centre | MyriaFederaal Migratiecentrum (Dutch); Myria – Centre fédéral Migration (French)

Myria, the Federal Migration Centre, is an independent public institution responsible for protecting the fundamental rights of foreigners in Belgium, including discrimination on the grounds of nationality.

Myria has a coordinating role in Belgium with regard to other institutions that will be working on the directive in the future. Which institutions these will be is currently the subject of negotiations.

Main areas of support

  • Provides first-line support to Union workers and their family members on fundamental rights
  • Coordinates activities related to the directive in Belgium
  • Acts as a contact point with equivalent bodies in other Member States
  • Conducts or commissions surveys and analyses on obstacles to free movement and discrimination
  • Makes recommendations on issues related to restrictions, obstacles or discrimination
  • Publishes relevant online information on the free movement of workers
