Delegation of the Employment and Social Affairs Committee of the European Parliament led by MEPs Antonius Manders (EPP) and Daniela Rondinelli (S&D), visits ELA

Members of the European Parliament, Mr Antonius Manders, from the European Peoples’ Party and Ms Daniela Rondinelli, from the Socialist & Democrats, led the European Parliament delegation during its official visit to the European Labour Authority on the 20th and 21th of February 2023 at ELA’s premises in Bratislava, Slovakia. The aim of the visit was to get a better idea on ELA’s operational activities and exchange views on ELA's priorities for 2023.

During the first day of the visit, ELA Executive Director, Mr. Boiangiu presented the development of the Authority since its establishment in 2019. He continued with presentation of ELA’s main achievements in the five strategic areas of ELA’s work. ELA’s representatives also presented the delegation the preliminary results of the Road to Fair Transport Campaign. The results illustrated significant outreach of awareness rising activities focused on the rules in road transport sector to drivers and operators. The day was concluded with a presentation and an exchange of views on the Authority’s priorities for 2023 with specific focus on the construction sector.

During the exchange of views MEPs focused on fostering cooperation between the Employment and Social Affairs Committee of the European Parliament and ELA. Mr Manders and Ms Rondinelli were interested in ELA’s experience and challenges from the first years of operation. In addition, questions were raised on current needs and trends related to labour mobility and ELA’s cooperation with SOLVIT.

The second day of the visit started with a presentation of experience with the concerted and joint inspections. Labour Inspectors from Slovakia, the Netherlands, Bulgaria and France took part in the meeting and presented their hands-on experience with cross-border inspections. This was followed by an interesting Q&A session where the delegation of the EP wanted to learn more about the practice and findings of the national inspectorates. This session was followed with a meeting with ELA’s National Liaison Officers. The NLO’s from France, Spain and Latvia showcased their work in promoting cross-border cooperation with Member States.

The successful visit was concluded with an exchange of views on the main challenges and opportunities for the future of ELA.
