The European Labour Authority has launched its “[**Light vehicles. Big changes**](/en/campaigns/light-vehicles-big-changes "Light vehicles. Big changes.")” campaign to raise awareness of new EU rules taking effect on **1 July 2026**.

The changes will apply to **light commercial vehicles** **with a maximum permissible mass greater than 2.5 tonnes and up to 3.5 tonnes** used in international freight transport or cabotage for hire or reward. Key updates include

- **new driving and rest time requirements**,
- the mandatory use of the **smart tachograph G2V2**, and
- specific **rules for posted drivers**.
