
8 concerted and joint inspections took place across the EU on 6 - 12 October, in Austria, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czechia, Finland, Greece, Lithuania and Romania. The actions were carried out by labour inspectors as well as enforcement officers from customs, social security, tax, police and migration authorities. Visiting inspectors joined from Belgium, Cyprus, Czechia, Estonia, France, Italy, Poland, Romania and Slovakia.

The EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) and the European Labour Authority (ELA) have jointly launched a new practical guide to help workplace inspectors to identify and address labour exploitation. The guide will also help workers to claim and enjoy their rights across the European Union.

An EU wide large-scale enforcement action to inspect compliance with wage rules took place in Austria, Czechia, Estonia, Germany, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal and Slovakia. 21 EU countries in total participated, supported by the European Labour Authority. More than 3 742 labour inspectors were involved in checking 1 615 employers and 14 122 employees.

Training focus was on roadside inspections, particularly on driving time, breaks and rest periods as well as on posting of drivers. Five sessions were held across Europe in 2024.

Almost 500 hundred trucks and buses were checked by enforcement officers in southern Austria. The joint inspection resulted in 1451 identified offenses including multiple tachograph manipulation cases.

Comprehensive sessions scheduled across 2024 for all 27 Member States

The European Labour Authority (ELA) organised a week-long Training for labour and social inspectors on 4-8 December 2023. More than 60 inspectors participated in the training, which ended with a roadside mock-inspection in Bratislava, Slovakia. The objective of the training was to enhance the inspectors’ knowledge and skills on cross-border inspections.
